This medication is used to treat a certain type of nerve disease called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also commonly called Lou Gehrig's disease). Riluzole helps to slow down the worsening of this disease and prolong survival.
Riluzole (marketed as Rilutek, Teglutik and TIGLUTIK) is a drug used to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Riluzole delays the onset of ventilator-dependence or tracheostomy in selected patients and may increase survival by approximately two to three months.[2] Riluzole is available in a tablet and liquid form. The liquid formulation may be more suitable for patients with swallowing difficulties.
