Naproxen is used to relieve pain from various conditions such as headache, muscle aches, tendonitis, dental pain, and menstrual cramps. It also reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis, bursitis, and gout attacks. This medication is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
Naproxen, sold under the brand names Aleve and Naprosyn among others, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain, menstrual cramps, inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, and fever.[5] It is taken by mouth.[5] It is available in an immediate and delay release formulation.[5] Onset of effects is within an hour and last for up to twelve hours.[5] Common side effects include dizziness, headache, bruising, allergic reactions, heartburn, and stomach pain.[5] Severe side effects include an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, and stomach ulcers.[5] The heart disease risk may be lower than with other NSAIDs.[5] It is not recommended in people with kidney problems.[5] Use is not recommended in the third trimester of pregnancy.
